Meet Pastor Bond
About our Pastor Ellis Bond and his wife Sherri
Though he grew up in a military home complete with the multiple moves that is part of that life, Pastor
Bond’s roots lie deep in the hills of the West
Virginia / Kentucky border where both actual McCoy and
Hatfield blood runs in his veins.
It was when they were stationed in Wichita
Falls, Texas that a Baptist Church persistently witnessed
to the entire family. “We had learned how to be gone on
Tuesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 to avoid our weekly
visit,” he remembers. But the church’s faithfulness paid
off when the Pastor’s dad rededicated his life to the Lord
and his mother and he both accepted Christ.
At the next duty station, Altus, Oklahoma, he
was baptized and started attending youth group faithfully.
That was where the Lord began to work on his heart about
being a preacher.
The next duty station, Knob Noster, Missouri,
taught many hard lessons including a church closing and
another one starting. It was from that newly formed
congregation that he left for Baptist Bible College in
Springfield, Missouri where he met his wife, Sherri.
After graduating they worked as youth workers in Wheeling,
W.Va, Lawton, Oklahoma, and Anthony, Kansas.
In 1974 Bible Baptist Church of Alva, Oklahoma
became the first of four pastorates. The others were
Muskogee Baptist Temple, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Community
Baptist Church in Holiday, Florida and First Baptist of
Port Richey.
Pastor Bond often says that he has the greatest
job and the greatest congregation in the world. When he
is not working he loves to hunt and to write.
